1 Day Course: Make a Boat Shaped Willow Basket - Sat 11 Nov 2017

Working with Willow grown by me, you will learn to make a simple and beautiful frame basket using a wooden former. This is an ideal first basketry project or great for those with experience. You will learn how to prepare willow and use a range of simple tools.

I am offering a two day workshop to make a simple and beautiful frame basket. These are traditionally made in rural areas all over Europe. We will look at different systems to create and fill the form, taking a close look at the Cyntell and the Ulster potato basket. 

You’ll learn how to set up and complete a generous harvesting basket. (Approx 30cm diameter).

  • How to attach two willow hoops to create the frame
  • Simple knife skills to shave the basket ribs
  • To recognise different Frame baskets including the Ulster potato basket and the Welsh Cyntell
  • How to create a system of weaving which fills the basket evenly

The Willow Project - Jan to May 2018: SOLD OUT


The Willow Project is course than runs over 7 days across 5 months. After perfecting learnt techniques, you will plan and make a basket that you have designed.

My hope is that you will meet a group of people who will encourage each other in a supportive and collaborative environment, so you can continue making on your own, or with others, with greater confidence. It may work for some of you to meet to continue work between sessions.

This is a course for intermediate basketmakers who have completed other courses with Annemarie. Joining the course is by pre-arrangement directly with Annemarie first.
