IRISH MOUTH WALE with Anne Mette Hjørnholm

VENUE: Isfield, near Lewes

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
We will focus on two techniques over the three days: the Irish mouth wale and a random weave frame basket. You will be guided through all of the stages of making both of these. 
At the end of the course you will have one or two baskets to take home.

YOU WILL:

  • select willow for a mouth wale

  • set up a basket for the mouth wale

  • complete this open weave

  • make a hoop and set up ribs for a frame basket

  • create tension and structure using randomly woven bark and willow

ABOUT ANNE METTE:
Starting out as textile designer, specialized in weaving she naturally moved on to basketry and has since developed her unique style and expertise. We are delighted to have her visit and share her skills with us.

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR:
This course is suitable for intermediate makers/ those who or those who can make a round basket without the support of a tutor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Our studio/home is in Isfield, East Sussex, which is 1-hour south of London and 45 minutes from Gatwick International Airport.

ACCOMODATION: We can help arrange for you to stay locally – either in Isfield or the historic town of Lewes. Please contact us if you would like help or advice booking accommodation.

TRANSFERS: If you are travelling from abroad we can pick up from Gatwick International Airport for a cost of £35 or from Lewes or Uckfield train stations at no charge.

Tools, books and willow will be available to purchase at the end of the course.

East Sussex has a huge variety of places to visit and things to do. The historic town of Lewes has many shops, restaurants, cafes and sights to see - Lewes Castle, The Grange Gardens, Priory ruins to name a few. The surrounding area also offers a great selection of creative sights if you would like to extend your visit: Charleston Farmhouse - Firle, Ditchling Museum – Ditchling, Glyndebourne Opera, De La Warr Pavilion - Bexhill, Jerwood Gallery - Hastings, Brighton Museum, Towner Gallery – Eastbourne.
